Melbourne's Underworld Killings
Melbourne Underworld
CARL Williams, the notorious baby-faced underworld figure who police believe killed 10 people, yesterday pleaded guilty to three of the murders — signalling an end to Melbourne's bloody gangland war.
More than seven years after the first shots were fired in an unprecedented rampage of underworld violence, Williams accepted a deal with prosecutors to confess to some of his crimes in order to avoid dying in jail.
Under the deal, he will not be charged with the other murders police say he was behind. However, Williams, 36, still faces a probable sentence of more than 30 years, giving him no chance of parole before he turns 70.
